Date: January 13-14, 2001
Destination: Westpoint Slough Charts: 18651 & 18652 Page B, Inset 2
Cruise Leader: John Farnsworth (650) 366-9911 jsfarsworth@earthlink.net
VHF Channel being monitored: 72

Activities Schedule:

For those unfamiliar with Westpoint Slough, Chris Shantz (Sunshine Patriot) will be guiding boats into the slough promptly at 1019h. Meet in the turning basin in the vicinity of daymark #13 if you want to follow him.

John Farnsworth will lead (ahem) a stalwart group of kayakers/canoists/et cetera on a mini-tour of the slough at 1330h. If birds are present, we might watch them, so bring binoculars.

Social hour will occur at the stroke of sunset. It is customary to bring yummy snacks and your beverage of choice when you invade other boats for the social hour.

Notes on Facilities:

There are no facilities for this cruise. If weather permits, many of the boats will be rafting up. If it is cold, and it will be, we will congregate on boats with heating systems for the social hour. Dinner is on your own, although spontaneous potlucks have been known to happen on previous cruises of this nature.

Special Instructions:

Westpoint Slough can be found on Chart 18652, Page B, Inset 2.  Bringing a dinghy along on this cruise is strongly advised. Any boat going aground is requested to lower their burgee. (see tidal information).  Because of the tides, most of the larger boats will not be leaving the slough on Sunday until approximately 1500h.

Tidal Information:

An 8.23 ft high tide will occur at the slough entrance at 1504h. The evening low will be a minus 0.34 ft tide at 2145h. On Sunday morning, a 2.38 low will occur at 1034h., and the afternoon high of 7.52 ft. will occur at 1601. Boats with drafts greater than 4 feet should not plan on leaving the slough at low tide.
