Racing Rules:
|
|
Redwood Cup races shall be
governed by simplified racing rules, as follows:
1) Port keeps
clear of starboard.
2) Windward
keeps clear of leeward.
3) The boat
astern keeps clear of the boat ahead.
4) A boat
Tacking or Jibing keeps clear of one that is not.
5) Avoid
collisions. These racing rules are defensive to prevent collisions, not
offensive to provide racing tactics.
6) If you gain
right of way or change course, give the other boat time to keep clear.
7) The inside
boat(s) at two boat lengths from the mark is entitled to room to round the
mark.
8) A boat that
is not presently racing keeps clear. (This is especially
important near the start/finish area in reverse-start races. Let's not
have the big boats who are still 10 minutes away from their starts taking
wind from the little boats that are already racing.)
9) Always give
way to a boat requesting "sea room" (room needed to maneuver
because of proximity of shallow water, wharfs, 10,000 ton-freighters, etc),
and always sail a proper course while inside the Redwood Creek shipping
channel.
10) If you have
violated a rule, take a penalty. (360deg circle for touching a mark,
720deg circles for fouling another vessel.)
11) The
wearing of suitable personal flotation devices is required for all race
participants at all times.
12) Racers
shall monitor Channel 69 for racing communication and instructions.

ALL SKIPPERS, CREW, FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE WELCOME AT SEQUOIA YACHT CLUB FOLLOWING THE RACES.
|
|
Scoring: The order of finish shall be posted
by the Skipper or Crew of the participating yachts in the Sequoia Yacht Club
lounge. A record of each yacht that posts their finish order at Sequoia
Yacht Club after the race shall be kept for the five (5) race series.
If a yacht does not finish a race it starts, they may post the number of
finishers plus one (1). If a yacht does not start a race, they may post
the number of finishers plus two (2). If a race is cancelled it shall automatically
count as the one throw out. (3) A disqualified yacht is scored as
number of finishers plus one. The winner shall be determined by taking the
four best finishes of the participating yachts. The lowest score
wins. In the event of a tie, the yacht that has participated the most
races wins, if they continue to be tied after the participation test, they
shall share the placement.
Awards: At the conclusion of the series the overall
winner shall be determined and presented the Redwood Cup Trophy at the
Installation Dinner in November.
Start Time: Each Skipper is responsible for their start
time using the start times of these instructions and GPS or POPCORN data.
The start times are based on the course sailed and the San Francisco
YRA PHRF certificate for your yacht.
