Single-handed #1 Race Results Posted
The 2010 Sequoia Single-handed Race Series got underway on Sat., Feb. 20 with race #1. Six intrepid sailors made their way to the start area awaiting the first horn to sound at 12:25 for a 12:30 start.
There was no shortage of wind for the first single-handed race of the season, with 12 knots at the start, increasing to a steady 15-17 knots in the afternoon. To add to the excitement a freighter bound for Redwood City decided to join the race at the San Mateo Bridge just before the first boats rounded B for the second downwind leg of the race. The course was 3/4 - 12s - Yp - Bp - 12p/2 for a total of 8.54 nautical miles. The unusual finish line was selected to help send SYC racers on to Coyote Point for the crab feed later that evening.
Congratulations to Sail la Vie (Phil MacFarlane) for taking first place, and to Lucky Duck (Paul McCarthy) and Agave (Robin Weber) for taking second and third place respectively. The other single-handed boats were Melilani (Rich Butts), Iowa (Rick Dalton) and Sweet Pea (Tim Petersen).
Race results can be found on the SYC web site, and also posted on the bulletin board at the club.
