Moonlight Marathon Race Results Posted

The SYC Moonlight Marathon was held on Sat., June 26. There were 10 boats in the race, 9 in Division A (mono-hull) and 1 in Division B (multi-hull).

The course was 3/4 - BRp - 3/4 for a total of 39.0 nautical miles. The race got underway on-time at 16:00 with brisk 15-18 knot winds blowing at the start line. The fun began on the far side of the San Mateo Bridge when half the fleet went east to look for calmer waters while the other half went down the channel to take advantage of the ebb current at the expense of encountering increased chop. As in years past, the first part of the race was both exciting and challenging.

All the SYC racers were able to round Blossom Rock Buoy before sunset and begin the downwind leg. By this time the winds had subsided, with a few lulls off and on until a moderate breeze filled in and blew the fleet back home. The full moon rose in the east just after 21:00 and lit the way to the finish line. All the boats completed the race well before the witching hour.

Congratulations to Carmelita (Chris Lewis) for taking first place, and to Metridium (John Graves) and Sweet Pea (Tim Petersen) for taking second and third place respectively in Division A.  Congratulations also goes to Roshambo (Daren Doud) for taking first place in Division B, finishing the race in just 31 seconds over 4 hours. Complete race results can be found on the SYC web site.

A number of the SYC racers were found in the clubhouse after the race with their feet next to the fire.

After-race sausages stayed in the fridge, waiting for Summer #4.
