Summer #1 Race Results Posted

The first race of 2010 SYC Summer Series was held on Sat., April 17. Nine boats showed up in the vicinity of channel markers 3 and 4 to begin the race at 12:30, but the summer winds were missing. In light winds more like those found in a winter race, two delays were called before the horn signaling the start finally sounded at 13:00.

The course was 3/4 - 12s - Yp - Xp - 12p - 3/4 for a total of 8.50 nautical miles. Rounding the first mark was quite a challenge given the light winds and a strong flood tide.  But it was indeed time for winter to say goodbye and for summer to finally show up. By late-afternoon the winds were gusting above 20 knots and all the boats were trimmed for summer racing conditions. The Summer Series is on!

Congratulations to Magic (Jeff Phillips) for taking first place, and to Head Rush (Charlie Watt) and Pizote (John Ryan) for taking second and third place respectively in the spinnaker division.  Congratulations also goes to Iowa (Rick Dalton) for taking first place in the non-spinnaker division.

Grilled sausages, chips and other refreshments were enjoyed afterwards while discussing the race and results.

See the SYC web site for more information about the Summer Series and the complete race results.

Single-handed #2 Race Results Posted

The 2010 SYC Single-handed Race Series continued on Sat., April 3 with race #2.  Ten skippers participated in the race, demonstrating their skills in guiding their boats around the course without a crew.

A flood tide with 10-12 knot winds at the start of the race provided near ideal conditions, although the winds did become a bit unreliable near the San Mateo bridge. The course was 3/4 - Xp - 12p - Ys - 3/4 for a total of 7.08 nautical miles.

Congratulations to Sail la Vie (Phil MacFarlane) for taking first place, and to Lucky Duck (Paul McCarthy) and Agave (Robin Weber) for taking second and third place respectively. The other single-handed boats were Iowa (Rick Dalton), Knot to Worry (George Sutton), Linda Carol (Ray Collier), Melilani (Rich Butts), Murmur (Doug Murray), Muzzy (Dan Lockwood) and Timbuktu (Dan Doud).

Race results can be found on the SYC web site, and also posted on the bulletin board at the club.
