Jack London Square Cruise-Out

By Winston Bumpus - Posted on 19 January 2012

The Jack London Square cruise-out will be held, Saturday, the 18th of February through to Monday, the 20th.  The cost of slip fees are $1.50 per / foot with a $45 minimum per day.  More details will be coming.  For black-toppers, the Bay Bridge will possibly be closed for west-going vehicles, so plan on returning home via the San Mateo Bridge.

Now, for the fun!  After you arrive on Saturday, we will be hosting our traditional ‘docktails’.  This will be followed with dinner at Yoshi’s, where we will be returning to the culinary excellence as in years past.  Dinner will be served ‘family-style’, as before, and at the reasonable cost of $45.00 per person (not counting drinks).  I believe we will be served in the Enkai Room, which should easily accommodate our group.  To check out the menu (which will be pre-selected), or have some unique dietary needs, go to www.yoshis.com/oakland/dining to check it out.

Following dinner, we will go into the Jazz Club where we will be entertained by the incomparable Poncho Sanchez Latin Band featuring Terence Blanchard where they will regale us with a tribute to conga drummer and composer Chano Pozo and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie.  The cost for the tickets is still $30 per person.  Be certain to check out the YouTube video on Yoshi’s website:  www.yoshis.com/oakland/jazzclub

On Sunday, back by popular demand, we will be offering the infamous East Bay Winery Bike Tour.  The cost is $70 per person which includes a bike (fit to size), helmet, gourmet lunch, personal winery tour and a personal (wine) bottle retrieval service (for those who can’t drink, ride AND haul back their own booty.)  More details to follow, but check out the website: www.eastbaywinerybiketours.com

Following the winery tour (or whatever your little heart desires during the day), we will meet back at Heingold’s Tavern around 3 p.m. for a book discussion of London’s entertaining, charming (and mostly forgotten) Tales of the Fish Patrol.  This is easily downloadable and quite readable.  You can download it from here: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/911  Bring your favorite quotes.

On Sunday night, you are on your own for dinner.  But, may we suggest Bocanovas, like last year: http://www.bocanova.com/food.shtml  (Bocanova’s website) or Cocina Poblana’s:  http://www.cocinapoblana.com/oak/index.htm  (Cocina Poblana’s website) or perhaps, http://www.misspearlsjamhouse.com/contact.aspx  (Miss Pearl’s Jam House restaurant)

Please sign up at the club or even easier please sign up online by clicking the following link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGlkcTFmVUU4aFpZc0xKel90YkxlWHc6MA
