Regatta Activities

Calling all stations . . .

Ah, what a long and storied history we have at THE Sequoia Yacht Club! Next weekend, for example, we will host what we believe will be the 54th Annual Barth Regatta, an inter-club race that pits the stalwarts of SYC versus those of Coyote Point YC. The trophy painting that is awarded to the winning club now hangs proudly in the Oates Room at SYC, and the goal is to keep it there.

There is a lot of fun around the race itself, so if you aren't going to sail I hope you'll come for the other festivities. On Friday, September 8, we'll have the Western BBQ dinner, with salad, steak, chicken, beans, cornbread, and pie, all for $20. After dinner we'll crank up the stereo and practice our western dance moves.

The Barth Race, this year from SYC to CPYC, will start at 1300 on Saturday. Once the racers arrive at Coyote Point, they'll be able to resuscitate themselves with a delicious Mexican-themed dinner of salad, chicken enchiladas, ribs, rice, beans, and dessert. The price for this is $18 if you sign up before 9/8, and $22 thereafter.

All of us, racing or not, are invited to attend the CPYC dinner, and I encourage you to go. The 54th running of this race in honor of one of our early commodores, Gustav Barth, deserves to have an excellent turnout from Sequoia. Let's go up in force and cheer our sailors when they retain the trophy!

To help with planning, please use this sign up sheet for the dinners on Friday and Saturday, and to let CPYC know if you want to spend Saturday night on their guest dock.
